Climate Emergency Resolution
As of May 2020, 1,486 government entities in 28 countries have declared a Climate Emergency Resolution. In attempting to have such a document adopted in the City of Ukiah we met with an organizer in Sonoma County, a more populous county just south of Mendocino County. Most of Sonoma County’s cities have adopted a Climate Emergency Resolution as has the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors and some Boards of Education.
We are prepared to present this to the City Council, but have been advised to delay that presentation given our work on Keep The Lights On - Ukiah. The Ukiah City Council is considering how strongly to support efforts to provide land for solar arrays to minimally provide enough power to the City during Power Shutdowns. Until that item is resolved we will postpone efforts to have a Climate Emergency Resolution passed by the City of Ukiah.
The Mendocino County Climate Action Advisory Committee has written a Climate Emergency Declaration for the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors to, hopefully, adopt. That document will be available on the website when passed.
